Elite Players of the Week

Our latest Pizza Shoppe Elite Players of the Week are …

Sydney

Sydney was a star last weekend for three Elite teams as she led her 2005 Barcelona squad to a second place finish on PK’s in the Crossroads Classic and played league games for 2003 Roma and 2003 Blue. On Friday, Syd played solid defense from her center back position as Barcelona won, 1-0, to all but secure the Heartland spring league division title. On Saturday she played two tournament games for Barcelona, playing every minute of two 4-0 wins at center back, keeping the box clear for her keeper. She also scored off a free kick just under the bar. She also played her normal keeper spot for two 2003 teams, making several sparkling saves in a close 1-0 loss and 2-2 tie. On Championship Sunday, Syd played twice, including Barcelona’s finals match-up. The game finished a 0-0 draw in regulation thanks in part to Syd’s tireless defense. As the game went to PK’s, she moved to keeper and made three diving stops to give the team a chance to win. As it was, they were unable to convert enough chances and Barcelona and Syd received well-deserved finalist medals. It was an impressive performance for the Barcelona captain all weekend. Syd is truly Elite.

Jarion

Jarion “JP” has earned this recognition by his demonstration of teamwork at the Crossroad Tournament. JP had to fill-in as our full-time keeper the entire weekend. He stepped up to the challenge and played where his team needed him the most. While playing keeper, we had the full range of drama, from penalty kicks to fingertip saves. He gave us everything he had in tough low scoring games. His positive attitude, hard work, and team-first mentality led the ’05 Red team to its first championship!
